HOW TO MAKE – Elizabeth Earrings with New Swarovski Innovations | How To | Blog
Cut a 1m length of thread, attach a needle to one end and string on 36 seed beads. Pass the needle back through the beads to make a loop. Go back through them again and tie the ends of thread in a knot to secure.
Begin your peyote stitch by threading on a bead, skipping the seed bead, and going up and through the next one. Repeat until you have gone all the way around the circle.
Once you reach the start of your circle, ‘step up’ by passing the needle through the outer bead which is the first you added on your last step. Now add another seed bead, skip the bead below and go through the next outer seed bead until you have made another circle. Step up as before and repeat again.
It should begin to look like this.
Step up and now go around once more, this time alternating between pearl, seed bead, pearl, to fill the gaps.
Place your crystal inside the beads to check the shape and size. From now on, pull the thread carefully but firmly to begin to tighten the beads around the crystal. Be aware that it won’t fit tightly until the final steps, so don’t snap your thread! Now step up again through the first pearl you added. Add a ring of seed beads going through the pearl and seed you just added like before.
Add a ring of seed beads going through the pearl and seed you just added like before.
Exit through the seed bead after the pearl. Add a seed bead, skip a bead and go through the next seed bead. Add another seed bead, skip the pearl and go through the next seed bead.
Make another ring of seed beads, going through all the last row of seeds that you added, sticking out. Remember to pull the cord carefully but firmly to pull the beads around the crystal.
This time without any beads at all, pass the needle through the inner circle of beads to re-inforce the strength and security of the crystal. Make a few half-hitch knots as you go along and when you are happy that your beadwork and crystal is secure, trim away the tail end.
Making the top
Weave your needle up to the top of your pendant (where one pearl sits) by going through the seed beads. Go through the pearl and exit the other side. String on three pearls and go back through the original pearl of the pendant to make a loop. Pull the thread so that the pearls sit snugly together (we corrected this mistake in the picture!). Now add a seed bead in between the pearls and go through once more to reinforce it and make a tight loop.
Now pass through the first seed bead you first added, string on four seed beads and go through the next seed bead. For the top section, add two seed beads, your ear wire, two seed beads then go through the next seed bead. Add another four seed beads and go through the last seed bead. Go back through this loop of seed beads to secure the shape and once more with a few half-hitch knots to secure the work. When you are happy that everything is secure, trim away your tail thread.
